It has worked great since I got it 6 months ago, never an issue. But.. I went to open it yesterday and nothing. I tried rebooting.. nothing. Also, it will not open Presonus Universal Control. I tried unistalling with the hopes of reinstalling but it will not let me uninstal the PUC. I can unistal S1 but it didn't help. I'm running a PC. Windows XP Help Please and Thanks!!!!!

Can you restore to a earlier date? Try that. If not, you might have a virus? You may have to format. I've had so many problems over the years that I had formatting and re-installing everything down to a fine art. I could install XP, audio card, drivers, DAW, VST's and then copy audio files back over in about 2 hrs.

No virus. But it did happen right after the day after I installed Avast. I've just been using the free version of Avast and un/reinstalling it when the trial ran out. It has never given me problems with S1 before. So I'm not sure what is causing this. I tried uninstalling Avast and restoring to before I installed it and still nothing. I can uninstall S1 but not the Universal Control. I'm thinking something is funky with PUC. How do I reformat?

| I was able to unistall manually but it still won't work after reinstalling. Don't think it's Avast now, as mentioned, it worked flawlessly up until this past wknd. Any suggestions?

Hmmm none I'm afraid. Unless anyone else has a few ideas, wait a couple of days, if not you'll prob have to format. To format you'll need to make sure your boot device in the bios is set to your cd/dvd-rom. When you insert your XP install disc it'll take you through the format process. Obviously make sure you back up all your audio, song files, vst and plugin presets and any other stuff you don't want to lose, net passwords, registration keys, email etc. But in any case treat the format as your absolute last option, cause it's a pain in the ass to do. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck.

Look, I can't give a direct answer to your question, sadly. But I will take the opportunity to say that I have used 'disc imaging' (Norton Ghost) for about 6 years now, and it's a great option for this kind of problem. I've had my fair share of what you are going through, and it suck big time. Of the thousands of files inside a Windows install, and settings that get altered inside windows itself when you install/uninstall an app, you will eventually get a conflict. The more stuff you have in your box, the more likely it is to happen to you. I have wasted hundreds of hours trying to fix faults like this (over about 12 years). I now just operate with the attitude that it cuold happen at any time, and that's when I reload my working OS image. So it sounds like you will need to reload your OS drive unless someone can identify for you which file is missing/overwritten. With a backup image, you can operate without stress knowing you can reload a backup of a working install. I will normally make several images during the OS install just as insurance, in case I find a major conflict and lose a function at some point. Once again, sorry I cannot be of more help to get you out of this bind more easily.

Thanks for info and suggestions guys, much appreciated! I will definitely use the disc imaging trick in the future. (If I can ever get S1 to work again.. grrr:-/ The tech has given me stuff to try, but so far, no go. I may need to reformat Windows, dunno. Everything else works as should, just not S1. I'm thinking of getting a dedicated PC built for recording so I may just have to wait till I get that and go from there. Till then, I've downloaded Reaper. But now I can't use it because (in the process of uninstalling everything Presonus related to get S1 to work).. I need to reinstall my AudioBox USB but lost my installation disc.. grrr again!.. lol! Thanks again for trying to help.

Wild thought but if you have the (I think it's called) Windows recovery still running on your machine. Try stepping back to a time where everything was working. You should be able to get to it from the Control Panel. Backup any work done since the backup date before you do it to make sure you don't lose anything.
